BOARD LUNCH MEETING – August 11, 2015
Call to Order
The regular meeting of the Board of Directors was held on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at Scooters, 2750 Miracle Mile, Bullhead City, AZ. The meeting was called to order at 11:45 am by President Rick Bastyr.
President Rick Bastyr, Vice President Larry Adams, Treasurer Steve Bouman, Secretary John Caponetto, Directors Kim Camacho, Catherine Lopez- Rajaniemi, Jim Underwood, and Keith Parker. Absent: Director Darryl Connella.
President Bastyr asked if everyone had read the Minutes in the Newsletter. President Bastyr asked for a motion to approved July’s Board Minutes as written. Treasurer Bouman made a motion to approve the Minutes of July’s Board Meeting as written. Director Parker seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed.
President Bastyr asked for the Treasurer’s Report. Treasurer Bouman reported on the current Treasurer’sReport to the Board. President Bastyr asked for a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Vice President Adams made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Secretary Caponetto seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed.
Economic Recovery Committee
Vice President Adams said that the Mohave Realtors only has paid $500 into this endeavor. We need to send out more flyers and to get more participation. We are rolling along. We have an ad in the magazine Where to Retire. Around the River has two ads in their sister papers in California and they have comped a full page advertisement in Southern California. We gave 20,000 flyers that Mohave Daily News are putting in their sister papers in Southern California. They are looking at Breda and seeing if they can get a check from them. Also, Vice President Adams said that the City is going off on another tangent; they are competing with private businesses. He said that the Economic Recovery Committee meets once a week.
President Bastyr said that we should focus on our goals for the Mohave Valley Contractors Association, like he mentioned in the 2015 August Newsletter. We need to change our “tone” with the City, and not have the appearance of fighting with them all the time. We need to get more involved with the community. We need to work harder on the Home Show. Director Camacho asked if at the next Board meeting we could have a group of guys from Lake Havasu come in and speak for about 15 to 20 minutes on carrier operations. It was mentioned that it wouldn’t hurt to listen to them. Director Camacho will set this up.
It was discussed that we need to find a speaker for next month’s meeting. A few ideas were kicked around. It was mentioned that maybe we could get someone from the ROC from Phoenix to speak, but it’s hard to get anyone to come up here as there is travel arrangements to arrange. There was also a discussion as to what the members hope they get from belonging to the Mohave Valley Contractors Association, such as fighting regulatory practices that are not practical and to protect the interests of our contractors.
Gary Keith Park Project
President Bastyr said that that Gary Keith Park Project is getting underway under Olivia McCormick’s direction. Question was asked, do we want to get involved? After some discussion it was made known that it wouldn’t hurt to be involved in this community project. We should reach out to Olivia and see what we do to help on this project and find out what they need. We should also let the membership know about this and get their input. Director Lopez-Rajaniemi will make contact with Olivia to see what they need.
Secretary Caponetto brought up that when we get involved in projects, we should get like kind of services. There was a discussion on this. It was also mentioned to ask the membership if they want an OSHA class. It seems that when we have politics or safety meetings, our membership showing is very low.
Again, in clarifying our immediate goals, we need to be getting more involved in the community; makingsure that our Home and Garden show will be better and bigger next year; and, do we want to do something in the Fall to make money besides the Home and Garden show?
Vice President Adams said that he received a request from a phone company in Lake Havasu to have the membership list of our contractors to put in their phone book. It was decided not to do it.
Vice President Adams told the Board that he received a letter from Toby Orr that needed our President’s signature regarding unity on Tax Sales. President Bastyr said he already signed it and sent it on. Vice President Adams said he wanted to meet with Regina Cobb and Toby Orr to discuss this topic. Secretary Caponetto said that this is a state problem. President Bastyr and Secretary Caponetto said they need to come up with a solution to this problem regarding tax sales and TPT sales tax for Regina Cobb to carry it. We need Lake Havasu, Kingman, and us to get on the same page before we take topic to Regina Cobb. Secretary Caponetto said we need to have a round table meeting with the right people. President Bastyroffered to call Toby Orr to set this up. Director Parker made a motion to have a round table meeting and Treasurer Bouman seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed. President Bastyr said he will call Toby Orr right after the Board meeting to set up the round table meeting.
President Bastyr asked if anyone had anything more to discuss. Seeing none, he asked for a motion to adjourn. Vice President Adams made a motion to adjourn and Treasurer Bouman seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed. Meeting adjourned at 12:57pm.
