President Rick Bastyr

Hello everyone. I hope the 1st quarter of your year is going according to plan.

I’m at a loss for words this month. Not because there’s nothing to talk about, but because I’m tired of talking about it. The one thing that is still being talked about is our Home & Garden Expo. I have received a few calls from new vendors wishing to be included next year as well as everyone who attended this year. There also seems to be some interest in having a fall show as well. There are pros & cons to having 2 shows per year and the board will discuss this at our next meeting. We don’t have any final figures in yet, we are still waiting for late payments and final bills to arrive.

Election of officers is right around the corner. If you have any interest in being on the board of directors now is your chance. Nominations are now open and the election will be held in June. Anyone not showing up for the general dinner meeting runs a risk of becoming President.

I really don’t have anything more to report on this month. I’ve been out of the loop working on some other projects. I am looking forward to a great meal at our next meeting and relaxing for awhile before it starts all over again.

There are a total of six candidates running for Mohave County Sheriff this year as the incumbent sheriff has decided not to seek re-election.  All six candidates have been invited to speak at our dinner meeting, but only three will speak at a time.  The first three will be Rodney Head, Joe Archie and Douglas Shuster. The position of sheriff is an important office and we should all be aware of who is running and elect the best candidate possible. Make your reservations today, so you can make an informed choice in November.

I hope to see everyone on Wednesday April 13th at 6pm. Remember to RSVP to receive a drawing ticket for next months dinner.

Call to Order

The regular meeting of the Board of Directors was held on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Scooters, 2750 Miracle Mile, Bullhead City, AZ. The meeting was called to order at 11:50pm, by President Rick Bastyr.

President Rick Bastyr, Vice President Larry Adams, Secretary John Caponetto, Treasurer Steve Bouman, Directors Steve Ramsey, Jim Underwood, Keith Parker, Catherine Lopez-Rajaniemi and Kim Camacho.

President Bastyr asked if everyone had read the Minutes in the Newsletter. President Bastyr asked for a motion to approve the February 2016 Board Minutes. Vice President Larry Adams made a motion to approve the February 2016 Board Minutes. Director Steve Ramsey seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report

President Bastyr asked for the Treasurer’s Report. Treasurer Bouman reported on the current Treasurer’s Report to the Board. President Bastyr asked for a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Vice President Adams made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Director Jim Underwood seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed.

Old Business

Economic Recovery Committee

President Bastyr asked Vice President Adams if he had anything to report on the Economic Recovery Committee. Vice President Adams said that the City is in a panic to keep the Economic Recovery Committee alive. They are broke. Vice President Adams said that they are not sure where the Chamber of Commerce stands. People are anxious to keep it going. Director Lopez-Rajaniemi needs to speak to the new director of the Chamber of Commerce, Elaine. The Chamber of Commerce voted to get off the Economic Recovery Committee. Now they need to vote to be put back on. The Mayor wants to get a lot of money to put into the Economic Recovery Committee. We have had around 292 responses from the “Where to Retire” magazine. He also mentioned that Brenda Richardson from the City has filled in for Chris Barton and had done a great job.

President Bastyr asked Vice President Adams if he had anything to report on the TPT Bill. Vice President Adams said that “thank God for John Caponetto for showing up”. They were both at the committee hearing and it was very frustrating. The room was packed and Gina Cobb spoke first. The League of Cities and Towns did not want anything to do with this. No one helped on this Bill. Complicated legislature takes about a year. Right now this Bill is dead until sometime next year. Not giving up the battle. Have to have a comprehensive study to give to Gina Cobb for next year.

Home Show

President Bastyr informed the Board Members that Freeman Industries are coming on Thursday morning at 7 a.m. Frontier is also coming in to set up Internet. Booth assignments for the sponsors and vendors are set. Demonstrations will be held in the Hallmark building. Security plan is in and setting up Thursday and blocking off parking lot. They will be there on Friday at 5 p.m., until Saturday morning. The tabloids will be here until tomorrow. The car show has ten registered as of now. They have 60 spots for the car show. We will be having a volunteer meeting on Friday at 5 p.m., at the Home Show area. Bermuda Water is sending volunteers. President Bastyr also said that he went to the school and that some teachers and members of the softball and basketball teams will be there to help out. He will have the kids with signs at six intersections. For the Crafts show, we have five outside vendors. Vendors can get in anytime on Friday. On Saturday, there will be an 8:39 a.m. meeting for vendors. For prizes, the stamped card will be for the BBQ grill. Jenners is donating a recliner. Coit will have five buckets of cleaning materials. They will have movie tickets, bowling passes, newspaper subscriptions, and the AVI has donated a 3 day 2 night stay. The Fire Department will also be at the Home Show.

New Business

President Bastyr said we had two applications for membership. The first membership application was from Rim Country’s Rack N Yard. The second membership application was from Help Ur Home Restore. A discussion was held and President Bastyr asked for a motion to approve the membership applications for Rim Country’s Rack N Yard and Help Ur Home Restore. Vice President Adams made a motion to approve the membership applications and Director Ramsey seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed.

Guest Speaker

Vice President Adams said that Jon Moss, Judge, will be our guest speaker for tomorrow night’s general meeting.

President Bastyr asked if anyone had anything more to discuss. Seeing none, he asked for a motion to adjourn. Vice President Adams made a motion to adjourn and Director Underwood seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed. Meeting adjourned at 12:44 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
