Well, I think Summer is here. It’s getting warmer now, so please remember to keep hydrated. Drink plenty of water, even if you’re not thirsty.
Well, it’s that time of the year again. Time to cast your vote for President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Board of Directors. We had a nomination for a new board member, Jim Underwood. Jim works at Lowes and is also on the Home Show committee. We will be holding the election at this next general dinner meeting. It’s been rumored that if you don’t show up to vote you could be elected for President.
I have to admit that I am a little out of touch with what has been going on lately. I just returned from spending 2 weeks in Minnesota. Sometimes you just need to get away for awhile.
This Months guest speaker will be Mayor Tom Brady. Tom has been in office 6 months now and has just been through the budget process for the first time. Mayor Brady is particularly interested in hearing from you as to how you think The City is doing, particularly in how it’s doing on Building Permits and Planning and Zoning. This is your opportunity to have a round table discussion with your Mayor. It is a Great Opportunity and promises to be very informative meeting. Don’t miss it!
I look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting on June 10th at 6pm. Don’t forget to RSVP to have a chance to win next months dinner for free.

The regular meeting of the Board of Directors was held on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Scooters, 2750 Miracle Mile, Bullhead City, AZ. The meeting was called to order at 11:42 am by President Rick Bastyr.
President Rick Bastyr, Vice President Larry Adams, Treasurer Steve Bouman, Secretary John Caponetto, Directors Keith Parker, Terry Kreidel, and Darryl Connella. Absent were Directors Catherine Lopez-Rajaniemi and Kim Camacho.
President Bastyr asked if everyone had read the Minutes of April’s Board Meeting. Everyone said they did. President Bastyr asked for a motion to approve the Minutes of April’s Board Meeting. Secretary Caponetto made a motion to approve the Minutes of April’s Board Meeting. Director Connella seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed.
Treasurer Bouman reported on the current Treasurer’s Report to the Board. Treasurer Bouman also reported to the Board that he received a letter from the State Fund stating that they had sent us a check but it had not been cashed. So they sent another form to be filled out and Treasurer Bouman said they received a check for $1200. President Bastyr asked for a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Director Parker made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Director Connella seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed.
President Bastyr reported that everything has been finalized regarding the Home Show. The Academy of Building Industries made a profit of $3,000 and the Mohave Valley Contractors made a profit of $7,000. He also reported that Jim Underwood wanted the Mohave Valley Contractors Association to join the Laughlin Home Show and we said no. There was a round of applause for the good turnout we had for our Home Show.
City Permit Fees
President Bastyr asked Vice President Adams if there was any more information regarding the City Permit Fees. Vice President Adams said that there was still no update on permit fees. We need to work on this.
Vice President Adams said no one went to the meetings that the Department of Revenue held on April 28th and 29th, regarding the TPT sales tax. The meetings were held at the City’s Council Chambers.
President Bastyr said he went to Kingman to the County meeting and only county staff and he were there and it was 6-1 recommendation for adoption of 2012 Building Codes with amendments. Apparently Toby Orr changed his mind regarding this item. Vice President Adams said he couldn’t understand why the County passed the 2012 County Building Codes.
Vice President Adams said he has talked to District Supervisors Steve Moss and Hildy Angius and Doug McGee regarding changes that Mohave County is trying to do with the 2012 Building Codes so that they can plan in advance before going to the County Supervisors meeting.
President Bastyr told the Board that he has signed the letter that Toby Orr wanted the Mohave Valley Contractors Association to co-sign with him and Keith Toy that they are sending to the Arizona State School Facilities Board regarding their method of hiring contractors for school district projects.
Economic Recovery Committee
Vice President Adams said that it’s a new start and a new committee. The Committee consists of the Mohave Board of Realtors, Mohave Daily News, Mohave Valley Contractors Association, Mayor Brady and Brenda Richardson from the City, Chris Barton of the Chamber of Commerce, and Supervisor District 2, Hildy Angius. Vice President Adams said that the City is putting $30,000 BREDA money to the Economic Recovery Committee. The Mohave Board of Realtors may put money in once they find out what kind of marketing plan they will come up with. They are going to come up with another concept for a brochure. And, they will be working on a new marketing strategy.
President Bastyr told the Board that next month is elections for a new Board. We will take nominations at tomorrow night’s dinner meeting. New officers will take office on July 1st.
Academy of Building Industries
Treasurer Bouman reported that the Academy of Building Industries is holding their graduation on May 29th and will be held at the SuddenLink Community Center. School starts in August and we should have students come in and speak about what they are doing, or we as a whole can plan on going to their Open House and see what they are doing.
President Bastyr asked Vice President Adams who he has for our guest speaker for next month. Vice President Adams said that there is no firm decision. Regina Cobb, U.S. State Representative, will be our guest speaker for tomorrow night.
President Bastyr asked the Board Members if there was anything else to be discussed. Seeing none, he entertained a motion to adjourn. Vice President Adams made a motion to adjourn and Director Connella seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed. Meeting adjourned at 12:28 pm.
