President Rick Bastyr

Where does the time go? Another a month gone by. The year is almost half over and it seems like it just started. We’ve been through a lot so far and it’s not over yet.
The county is on track to proceed with changing over to the 2012 building codes. A meeting held about 2 weeks ago was held by a committee to determine if they should adopt the new codes. We let everyone in the association about this meeting, however no one showed up. As a matter of fact there was no representation from any of the contractors associations in the area. The committee voted 6-1 to recommend that the county adopt the new codes. There is a chance to stop this. However, there would have to be support from the contractors building in the county’s jurisdiction. Contact Larry Adams to find out what needs to be done and how to go about getting it done.
Be sure to attend this months meeting as we will be accepting nominations for President, Vise President, Secretary, Treasurer and the Board of Directors. The elections will take place at our June dinner meeting.
U.S. State Representative Regina Cobb will be our guest speaker this month. This is your chance to ask the questions the reporters aren’t.
Also remember to RSVP to get a chance to win a free dinner next month.
I look forward to seeing all of you on June 13 at 6pm for a great meal and lots of information. Plus it may be your chance to be President.

Call to Order

The regular meeting of the Board of Directors was held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Scooters, 2750 Miracle Mile, Bullhead City, AZ.  The meeting was called to order at 11:55 am by President Rick Bastyr.

Old Business

Home Show

President Bastyr reported that we had around 1,000 to 1,200 people show up for the Home Show.  We had 750 punch tickets.  We ran out of punch tickets.  They are going to have a meeting next Tuesday to finalize everything.  Reading the survey forms, all the vendors want to come back next year.  One of the complaints was they did not like punching the punch tickets.

President Bastyr said he was disappointed on the quality of work done by the students. Director Lopez-Rajaniemi wants to create more “hoopla” with the kids so that they can get more into it.  Secretary Caponetto feels that maybe we should have an adult with the student so that they can direct them in their duties at the Home Show.

Treasurer Bouman reported that there will be a School Board meeting tonight.  He also said that Director Lopez-Rajaniemi will be presenting the School with a check for $1,120 that was raised from entry fees collected at the classic car and truck show during the Home Show.  The students also created the trophies for the car and truck show and judged the entries.  There will be a press release on this presentation.

City Permit Fees

Vice President Adams said that there was no update on permit fees.

Sales Tax

Vice President Adams talked about the TPT sales tax and said that it had passed.   It also said that the Department of Revenue will be holding two meetings regarding the TPT sales tax on April 28 from 5:30 pm to 8pm, and on April 29 from 9:30am to 12pm.  These meetings will be held at the City’s Council Chambers.  He predicts that it will be a light crowd for these meetings.

Guest Speaker

Vice President Adams said that our guest speaker for tomorrow night’s dinner/meeting will be a representative from Arizona Department of Transportation.

Economic Recovery Committee

Vice President Adams said that the Economic Recovery Committee is back in business with a new slate of players.  The Committee consists of the Board of Realtors, Mohave Valley Contractors Association, Mayor Brady and Brenda Richardson from the City, Chris Barton of the Chamber of Commerce, and Supervisor District 2, Hildy Angius.  Vice President Adams said he will be meeting with the Board of Realtors April 15.  The next meeting of the Economic Recovery Meeting will be held April 30.  Vice President Adams said that he talked to Wendy Lewis in the Building Department about building permits and she said that there were 13 residential permits issued last year, and this year there are 22 residential permits issued.

New Business

Building Codes

Vice President Adams said he has talked to Supervisor Steve Moss and Supervisor Hildy Angius regarding changes that Mohave County is trying to do with the 2012 Building Codes.  Vice President Adams said it’s the same battle that they have been battling for some time.

Secretary Caponetto told the Board he has sent out 28 second approach mailings to members who have not yet renewed their membership.

Construction Procurement Process

Vice President Adams said he received a letter written by Toby Orr, President of the Northwest Arizona Builders Association and Keith Toy, President of the Colorado River Building Industry Association, sent to the Arizona State School Facilities Board, regarding their method of hiring contractors for school district projects in Mohave County.  They wanted Vice President Adams to present this letter and request approval to add the name of the Mohave Valley Contractors Association and the President name. Vice President Adams said he supports this letter.

President Bastyr asked the Board Members if there was anything else to be discussed.  Seeing none, he entertained a motion to adjourn.  Vice President Adams made a motion to adjourn and Secretary Caponetto seconded the motion.  All were in favor.  Motion passed.  Meeting adjourned at 12:54 pm.

Respectfully submitted,
