Happy Easter everyone. I hope this spring weather is treating everyone well. Well, we did it again! Our 3rd annual Home & Garden Expo was a HUGE success. We had over 1000 in attendance for the 2 day event. 56 cars in the car show on Saturday and some great music. I would like to thank our sponsors, Tri State Building Materials/Ace Hardware, Lowes and MEC. The support we get from them is tremendous and helps in providing a better show every year. Also a BIG thank you to Athea Swanson and Catherine Lopez-Rajaniemi. They took on a new task this year that helped our fundraising efforts go through the roof. They put together the flyer that was in the newspaper before the show. They sold ads, chose pictures and did the layout for the flyer. Not all the numbers are in but it appears that this flyer alone created more revenue for the association then the show itself. At least for this year. This means the bar needs to be raised on the home show. We sold out of vendor spaces and are currently planning next years expansion. All the vendors said that they received great leads and would like to return next year. One vendor stated he attended the home show in Phoenix and received 3 leads. He received 25 from our show and had already made a sale by the following Wednesday. We’re reaching the people in the area, are you going to get booth next year?
Now that the fun is over, it’s time to get back to work. We are still having issues with the TPT tax reporting. And most of the confusion is coming from the IRS.
And then there’s the city with the permit fee increases. It was last reported they were going to do a cost comparison with the other cities.
Hopefully our very own political watch dog, Larry Adams, will have received some encouraging news on these two items.
Our guest speaker this month will be a representative of ADOT to give us an update on the future super highway.
Don’t forget to RSVP your dinner reservations to be entered into the free meal giveaway for next month. I look forward to seeing all of you on Wednesday April 8 at 6pm.

Bullhead City Workshop
Vice President Adams said he and Director Keith Parker went to the City of Bullhead City’s workshop regarding the 1.7% increase in permit fees. Vice President Adams felt that the City belittled the Mohave Valley Contractor’s Association because we complained about the increase. The City’s staff was directed to do cost comparisons between Kingman and Lake Havasu City. President Bastyr said that we are talking with the Real Estate Association. Director Parker said that he has talked with Sharon of Del Kelly and they would like to join our organization and work together. We would team up and reciprocate with them.
President Bastyr reported that all the spots for vendors are filled. He mentioned that the Kiwanis need to be there on Friday to set up for Saturday. Next Wednesday the Home Show Committee Meeting will be held at 4:30pm at the site. He said we still need five tables and 30 chairs. President Bastyr said that at 5pm tomorrow night there will be a short meeting of the Home Show Committee before the General Meeting.
Vice President Adams talked about the sales tax and the TPT Reform and prime contracting. He said that it passed and gave a short summary. He also mentioned that no forms have been mailed out and that this is still not clear. Vice President Adams said he will pass out copies of the 2025 Pending Legislation 2015 – SB1446 and HB2590 to the membership tomorrow night. President Bastyr said that Director Lopez-Rajaniemi just texted him that they have 26 vendors inside and four vendors outside for the Home Show. Director Parker informed the Board that Breda has been disbanded. Lisa McCabe will be taking over John Masterson’s position with Golden Vortez. Mr. Masterson is moving to Texas. He said that Breda has $60,000 and it was felt by all that it should go for economic development.
President Bastyr asked the Board Members if there was anything else to be discussed. Seeing none, he entertained a motion to adjourn. Vice President Adams made a motion to adjourn and Director Kreidel seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed. Meeting adjourned at 12:27pm.
