Happy February!

I hope the new year is showing signs of a great year. Last month we discussed the new TPT reporting issues. We had speakers from the Department of Revenue attend the meeting and tons of questions were asked and answered, not always to the likening of the person asking. However, by the end of the night I think everyone had a better understanding of the situation. Unfortunately, the State of Arizona was on to us. They knew we were starting to understand how to report the new system, so the following week the started to implement a new formula to make sure we get lost in the dark again. A new formula to make it ten times harder to report.

This month Larry Adams will update us on what has happened in the last month. We have reached out to other organizations to show our strength in numbers.

There is only about 6 weeks until our 3rd annual Home and Garden Expo. Spots are filling up quickly. Get your application in ASAP to reserve your spot. The show will be held on March 21-22. Sponsorships are still available as well. Check the website for vendor and sponsorship applications at www.mvcaaz.org.

As of February 1st, all memberships were due for 2015. Make sure to take some time to fill out the membership form with any updated information and return with the $100 fee to the address on the bottom of the form. If you haven’t received the renewal form it can be accessed on the website as well.

We also need volunteers for the Winter Visitors Expo. Last month only one person signed up to help. I am sure there are more of you that could spare an hour or two to help man our booth, educate the benefits of hiring licensed contractors and promoting our Home and Garden Expo. Call Catherine at 928-715-3260 or sign up on the schedule form the night of the meeting. The Expo will be held at the Chamber of Commerce on February 12.

Be sure to RSVP your dinner reservations to receive a chance to win next months dinner for free. I look forward to seeing all of you on February 11th at 6pm at the Chaparral Country Club.

BOARD LUNCH MEETING – January 13, 2015

Call to Order

The regular meeting of the Board of Directors was held on Tuesday, January 13, 2014, at Scooters, 2750 Miracle Mile, Bullhead City, AZ.  The meeting was called to order at 11:47 a.m., by President Rick Bastyr.

President Rick Bastyr, Vice President Larry Adams, Treasurer Steve Bouman, Directors Darryl Connella, Kim Camacho, Terry Kriedel, and Keith Parker.  Absent were Secretary John Caponetto and Director Catherine Lopez-Rajaniemi.

President Bastyr asked the Board if they had read the Minutes of December’s Board Meeting.  Everyone agreed that they had read the Minutes.  President asked for a motion to approve the Minutes of December’s Board Meeting.  Vice President Adams made a motion to approve the Minutes of December’s Board Meeting.  Director Connella seconded the motion.  All were in favor.  Motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report

Treasurer Bouman reported on the current Treasurer’s Report to the Board.  President Bastyr asked for a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report.  Vice President Adams made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report.  Director Parker seconded the motion.  All were in favor.  Motion passed.

Christmas Party

President Bastyr asked the Board Members if they enjoyed the Christmas Dinner Meeting and everyone said that they enjoyed it, the price was reasonable, and the food was great.  They want to do it again next year.

Home Show

President Bastyr said that the Home Show Committee met a week before.  A food vendor hasn’t been cleared yet.  He also told the Board Members that a vendor app is on our website.  President Bastyr said that Lake Havasu City is having their Home show the same weekend we are and that he will go down that Friday to see how they do their show.  The next Home Show Committee will be meeting on January 27th.  Treasurer Bouman said that he went to the City and picked up the Special Events application.

Vice President Adams reported that the Mohave Valley News is having their “Seniors & Winter Visitors Expo” on  February 12th at the Chamber of Commerce.  He said we should have a booth there and the cost will be $75.  This is the third year that Mohave Valley News has held this event.  Someone asked why we are having a booth at this event, and Vice President Adams said it’s because we promote our Home Show at this function.

Where To Retire

Vice President Adams said that we only received around 225 labels, down from 600 labels.  We may need to refresh our ad if we do this again.  He also reported that he and Bob Brown went on their annual trek to Quartzsite.  He said that 20,000 of our brochures were going into the packets for the winter visitors to Quartzsite.

New Business

President Bastyr told the Board Members that our renewal for membership with the Chamber of Commerce is up.  He asked if they still wanted to be members for $100.  Vice President Adams made a motion to pay the $100 membership dues to be a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and Director Connella seconded the motion.  All were in favor.  Motion passed.

New Revenue

President Bastyr said that we need to have another form of revenue besides the Home Show.  Vice President Adams said we should talk to the service organizations like the Kiwanis as to how to hold fund raisers.

School Update

Treasurer Bouman reported that the school is at maximum of 138 students.  They are looking for used portable buildings.  They need more space.  Vice President Adams did not think this is a good idea, but the school does need to expand.

Vice President Adams passed out a copy of year-end total permits from the City of Bullhead City.  December was a good month.  We are seven permits up from last year.  He is also upset with the increase in price of building permits, and that we are being hammered by the prices of commercial permits.

Vice President Adams reported that Steve Ramsey is starting chemo tomorrow and that he is doing well.

President Bastyr entertained a motion to adjourn.  Vice President Adams made a motion to adjourn and Director Connella seconded the motion.  All were in favor.  Motion passed.  Meeting adjourned at 12:34 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Laura L. Harrison
