PRESIDENT’S LETTER

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
With the beginning of a new year comes the beginning of new goals and new frustrations. The new frustration for this month is the new way your Transaction Privilege Taxes will be collected. The state has passed a bill saying cities can no longer collect their own TPT. The State will now be collecting it again. But there is a twist. Taxes will be separated into three different categories, and based on what category you perform the work under determines the amount of tax you pay. Sounds easy enough, NOT!! No one has been able to explain how to determine which category you will use, not even the State.

There is help coming though. On Wednesday January 14, from 2-4 we have arranged for the State Revenue department to provide some much needed info. All businesses in the city are invited to attend this meeting which will be held at the Chamber of Commerce.  They will also be our guest speaker at our general meeting that same night. We have asked them to cover specifically the construction industry. This will be a great time to get your questions answered for your specific company. You may want to bring your CPA just to make sure they have a clear understanding as well.

This meeting is a “Must attend” for every business! So, bring your bookkeepers, CPA’s and everyone else that has hand in your financials. Your going to want everyone on the same page.

Last week you should have received an application for the upcoming Home & Garden Expo in your email. Booths are already filling up. Reserve yours ASAP!  The show will be held on March 21-22 at the Mohave Crossroads Shopping center. The car and bike show are back and we are trying to get some “Big Boy Toys” as well. We are in talks with some RV, boat, PWC and dessert toy dealers to draw in even more spectators then last year. We had over 600 visitors attend our 2 day event last year and we expect to surpass that this year.

I look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday January 14th, 6pm for our monthly meeting. Don’t forget to RSVP to get a chance at winning next months dinner for free. Every winner has said that that free dinner was the best, and their going try for another one.
