PRESIDENT’S LETTER

Well, it certainly has been an interesting summer. The voters in Bullhead City have sent a very important message to the City Council. And that message was “Get off your *ss and do your job! More taxes is NOT the answer!” They also sent a subliminal message to the mayoral and council candidates. I believe they are a little more informed and are wanting the candidates to convince them they really deserve the job. Lets hope for a higher voter turn out.

Christmas is right around the corner. We have asked you about the Christmas Party for the last two meetings. We have received no interest from anyone wanting to continue the tradition. It is a time consuming task that has been placed on the shoulders of a few members who have done wonders. It also becomes another huge task to get members to buy tickets to attend. Unfortunately, this will be the last time we will bring this to a vote. It would be a shame to end a yearly tradition, but without the commitment from you and your fellow members it becomes a frustrating endeavor. Please take the time right now to respond to this e-mail stating your opinion, yes or no, on a Christmas party. Also let us know if you are willing to help plan the party. It’s really that simple. Take one minute to respond, right now.

Our guest speaker this month will be Martha Watson from the ROC. She is the investigator for our area. Please be sure to attend and bring all your licensing questions with you.

I look forward to seeing all of you on Wednesday September 10th at 6pm.

President Rick Bastyr

BOARD LUNCH MEETING – August 12, 2014

Call to Order

The regular meeting of the Board of Directors was held on Tuesday, August 12, 214, at Scooters, 2750 Miracle Mile, Bullhead City, AZ. The meeting was called to order at 11:57 a.m., by President Rick Bastyr.

Attendees

President Rick Bastyr, Vice President Larry Adams, Secretary John Caponetto, Directors Steve Ramsey, Catherine Lopez-Rajaniemi, Kim Camacho, and Darryl Connella. Absent were Treasurer Steve Bouman and Director Keith Parker. Gary Arfons showed up as a guest.

Minutes

President Bastyr asked if everyone had read the Board Minutes from last month. He then asked for a motion to approve the July Board Minutes. Gary Arfons asked that his name be spelled correctly. Vice President Adams made a motion to approve the Minutes for the July Board Meeting, and the motion was seconded by Director Darryl Connella. All were in favor. Motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report

President Rick Bastyr reported on the current Treasurer’s Report to the Board as Treasurer Steve Bouman was absent. President Bastyr asked for a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Vice President Adams made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report, seconded by Director Steve Ramsey. All were in favor. Motion passed.

OLD BUSINESS

President Bastyr reported on the sales tax signs. We have some 18 x 24 signs. We also have five 4 x 8 signs. It was discussed to have signs put on pickups like Vice President Adams has on his truck. A discussion was held regarding disclosure on the signs or lack of disclosure. Jim Zaborsky does not have disclosure on his signs. Vice President Adams feels that we should file a formal complaint with the Mohave County Elections Department and the Mohave County Attorney on the lack of disclosure on Jim Zaborsky’s signs. Discussion was held as to what action should be taken by the Mohave Valley Contractors Association. Vice President Adams made a motion to file a formal complaint electronically to the Mohave County Elections Department and to the Mohave County Attorney on Jim Zaborsky not having disclosure on his signs. Director Ramsey seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed.

A discussion was also held regarding the flyers we have concerning No on the Sales Tax and what to do with them. Vice President Adams made a motion to have the flyers placed in the Mohave Daily News. Director Ramsey seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed.

Gary Arfons wanted to speak about the conditions of our roads. There was a spirited discussion between Gary Arfons and Vice President Adams.

Safety Committee

President Bastyr asked Director Camacho if she had anything to report. Director Camacho said that nothing has been done yet. She said the SCF has not sent anything from them. It was mentioned that they have to send quarterly reports out and that Scott Merrill should be contacted on how to do the quarterly reports.

NEW BUSINESS

President Bastyr mentioned that it was time again for the magazine “Where to Retire”. He said that it had cost $1320 the first year. Now, the cost is $1110, a savings of $210. The question is, do we want to put our ad in this year? We had around 575 responses last time. It was asked if the Economic Development Recovery Committee was still meeting. Vice President Adams said yes but nothing of significance has been accomplished by this committee. Vice President Adams made a motion to put our ad in the Where to Retire magazine for this year. Director Ramsey seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed.

BREDA

Director Camacho and Vice President Adams discussed what some of the items BREDA has done. Vice President Adams said it hasn’t been successful except once in 24 years.

Home Show

President Bastyr reported that he has had contact with Bart Ross who put the home show in Laughlin last year and also talked about Harvey’s behavior. Mr. Ross wants us to join his home show. President Bastyr asked the Board if they want to join Mr. Ross’s home show for next year. Everyone on the Board said no, they did not want to join Mr. Ross’s home show. Vice President Adams made a motion to not join the home show with Bart Ross, and Director Connella seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed. President Bastyr said we need to have a committee and Director Ramsey said he would help with the Home Show.

Director Camacho wanted to talk about the differential when we bid on jobs, but it was mentioned that we could discuss this after the vote on the 1% sales tax.

Christmas Party

President Bastyr said we will ask the members one more time if they want a Christmas party. If no one raises their hands, there will be no party.

Vice President Adams said he was going to debate Jim Zaborsky on the 1% sales tax at the Women’s Republican Committee meeting next week, but now Mr. Zaborsky will be out of town. He said he will have 180 handouts. He may even consider going on the Gary Sheeler show.

Bylaws

Secretary Caponetto passed out the Bylaws and to make revisions if needed. Also, if we wanted to put more specific language for addressing who attends our Board Meetings and our General Meetings.

Adjournment

President Bastyr asked if there was anything else to discuss. If not, we need a motion to adjourn. Director Ramsey made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Director Connella. All were in favor. Motion approved. Meeting adjourned at 1:08 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Laura L. Harrison
