President Rick Bastyr

Hello everyone, I hope your summer is starting out enjoyable and prosperous. This months general dinner meeting is going to be one that you DO NOT want to miss. By now you have heard that the city is putting the sales tax initiative on the primary ballot this August. The last time they tried we stood strong against the increase. This time around is a little different. They have pledged to only use the monies collected to go to street repair and only collect it for 7 years or less. They are trying to raise $35 million.

I missed the last meeting, however I heard about the discussions that took place. So this months meeting will consist of a debate, if you will, to let everyone voice their concerns on the pros and cons of this tax increase. Because we are a democracy, we will hold a vote to decide if we need to oppose or support this tax increase. Everyone will get a chance to voice their opinion in a respectful manner, and everyone will give the speaker their undivided attention. This, WILL NOT, become a shouting match or name calling debate!! We will conduct ourselves as respectable business owners, and discuss this matter with the seriousness that it deserves.

I recommend that you encourage all members that you talk too to attend this meeting. If you don’t show, you have no vote!! And therefore, will have no valid complaints to voice to the public. This tax increase affects everyone in our community. So if you have an opinion, come prepared to discuss it.

Our June meeting will be just as important. We will be holding our annual elections for the Board of Directors. It will be another chance for you to step up and help guide this association in the direction it needs to go.

I look forward to seeing everyone on May 14th at 6pm. Don’t forget to RSVP online for a chance to win a free dinner next month.

There were 440 yellow tickets punched that were turned in, and he’s guessing that approximately a minimum of 550-600 people came by in the two days the Home Show was held. He found that the 55% of the people attracted to the Home Show by the advertising in the newspaper, 12% of the people were drawn to the Home Show by driving by, 11% of the people were attracted to the Home Show by the flyers left all over town, and 3% by radio advertising. Someone asked him if we have any idea if people have moved here in response to our ad, and he said they have no way to find out. It costs $1200 to put the ad in the magazine, and Vice President Adams asked the Board Members if we wanted to continue advertising. It was deferred to the next meeting.

Respectively submitted,
