President Rick Bastyr

I would like to take this moment and thank everyone who helped put on the home show this year.  Larry, Steve, John, Jim, Michael and Catherine you deserve a round of applause for the great job you did. A special thank you to our sponsors, Lowe’s, Ace and MEC for everything they did to make this show a success. It’s not always about the money. Each one of our sponsors attended every meeting they could and with their suggestions and volunteering their time to make sure the event went off without a hitch. For
the vendors who attended the show, we heard nothing but good things. The attendees at the show, as they passed through our booth to register for the grill, all commented that they received some useful information and met some very friendly vendors. They can’t wait to come back next year. In total for the weekend we had 440 punched cards returned to our booth. Not everyone had a punch card so we estimate 500-600 in attendance.

The car and bike show was a huge success. Great idea Catherine. We had 47 entries which in turn raised $470 for AOBI. The kids had a good time judging all the vehicles and appreciate the donations.

We have set March 15-16, 2015 as the dates for next years show and hope to add a special show for Sunday. Details are still being worked out at this time. If you have any suggestions or want more info on the Home show just ask any board member or give me a call.

Don’t forget about the elections coming up this June. Now is the time to become active on the board and help take this organization to the next level. Board meetings are open to anyone who would like to attend.

This months speaker is Martha Watson, an ROC investigator. She will be speaking about the upcoming classification changes taking effect in July. She will also be informing us on her quest to take down the unlicensed contractors in the area. Don’t miss this very informational topic, it affects all of us.

The next general dinner meeting is on Wednesday April 9th at 6:00pm at the Chaparral Country Club. Don’t forget to RSVP online for a chance to win next months dinner for free.

BOARD LUNCH MEETING – March 11, 2014

Call to Order

The regular meeting of the Board of Directors was held on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Scooters, 2750 Miracle Mile, Bullhead City, AZ. The meeting was called to order at 11:46 a.m., by President Rick Bastyr.

President Rick Bastyr, Vice President Larry Adams, Treasurer Steven Bouman, Secretary John Caponetto, Directors Catherine Lopez-Rajaniemi, Scott Merrill, and Steve Ramsey. Absent were Directors Kim Camacho and Darryl Connella. Guests included representatives from Lowe’s and Keith from Tri State Restoration.

President Bastyr asked if everyone had read the Board Minutes from last month. He then asked for a motion to approve the February Board Minutes. Treasurer Bouman made a motion to approve the Minutes for the February Board Meeting, and the motion was seconded by Director Ramsey. All were in favor. Motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report

Treasurer Bouman reported on the current Treasurer’s Report to the Board. President Bastyr asked for a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Vice President Adams made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report, seconded by Director Ramsey. All were in favor. Motion passed.

Safety Report

Director Merrill reported that he only had reports from the fourth quarter of last year. He also said he needed a list of the membership. President Bastyr said he would supply Director Merrill with the list. The first quarter report for this year has not yet been received. He said he should have a short safety meeting soon.

Economic Recovery Committee

President Bastyr asked Vice President Adams if he had anything to report on the Economic Recovery Committee. Vice President Adams reported that the committee met last week. He said that they have received 450 to 500 batches. He said that the Chamber of Commerce is stamping and mailing them out. The Economic Recovery Committee is still looking for new ideas. Vice President Adams said they have had around 3,000 responses.

Section 12

President Bastyr reported to the Board that the City held its first meeting regarding Section 12 as an Executive Meeting last week. Again, no input from the City to the community regarding this item.

Sales Tax

President Bastyr spoke a little about the 1% sales tax that the City is proposing. There was a short discussion regarding this, and Vice President Adams again said he is against this and is going to draft a letter to the City opposing the 1% sales tax.

Home Show

President Bastyr said that Aquatic Pools came on board as a vendor. Director Lopez-Rajaniemi reported that the banners should be finished and that she should have the banners by tomorrow. She also reported that all of the spaces are filled except for one space. They have around 20 cars registered for the Car Show. There’s a little concern regarding parking spaces for the cars participating in the Car Show, but they are working on it. It’s going well. Treasurer Bouman requested a complete list of the vendors.

New Business

Vice President Adams said that next month’s guest speaker will be Martha Watson, Investigator for the Registrar of Contractors. He said we could have a safety film shown after Ms. Watson speaks, and that could be our Safety Meeting. Vice President Adams made a motion to have a film on safety shown after the guest speaker, seconded by Director Ramsey. All were in favor. Motion passed.

President Bastyr asked for a motion to adjourn as there was no more business to discuss. Director Ramsey made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Treasurer Bouman. All were in favor. Motion approved. Meeting adjourned at 12:20 pm.

Respectively submitted,
Laura L. Harrison
