Well, here we are in the final month of the year. Everyone is gearing up for the big holiday season just around the corner. And the association is no different. Our annual Christmas party is fast approaching and there are plenty of tickets available. December 13th, 6pm AZ time at the Riverside Resort and Casino. Bring a friend, your appetite and your dancing shoes. Tickets can be purchased at Pueblo Construction and Bullhead City Insurance. $40 each or 2 for $80 or a table of 8 for $320. What a deal.
We held our first committee meeting for the home and garden show. The show will be held on March 15 & 16, 2014. Booth prices will remain the same as last year and members will once again have first choice of which booth they would like. The Freeman Corp will once again provide the booth materials which looked very professional last year. Watch for more information in the upcoming month. BOARD LUNCH MEETING – November 12, 2013
Call to Order
The regular meeting of the Board of Directors was held on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at Scooters, 2750 Miracle Mile, Bullhead City, AZ. The meeting was called to order at 11:57 a.m., by President Rick Bastyr.
President Rick Bastyr, Vice President Larry Adams, Treasurer Steven Bouman, Directors CatherineLopez-Rajaniemi, Darryl Connella, Kim Camacho, Scott Merrill, and Secretary John Caponetto. Absent was Director Steve Ramsey.
President Bastyr asked if everyone had read the Board Minutes from last month. He then asked for a motion to approve the October Board Minutes. Vice President Adams made a motion to approve the Minutes for the October Board Meeting, and the motion was seconded by Director Connella. All were in favor. Motion passed.
Treasurer Bouman reported on the current Treasurer’s Report to the Board. President Bastyr asked for a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Director Connella made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report, seconded by Director Merrill. All were in favor. Motion passed.
President Bastyr asked Vice President Adams if he had anything to report on Section 12. Vice President Adams reported that he heard back from the Attorney General’s office and that the investigation will take at least a year and a half. He also reported that enough names were collected for the Section 12 initiative to be put on the ballot to be voted on by the people.
Where To Retire
President Bastyr asked Vice President Adams if he had put the ad in the magazine. Vice President Adams said that he did and it’s the same ad as before. He also said that the Economic Recovery Committee will meet again on November 19th question was asked of Vice President Adams if there is a way of tracking the replies to the ad, and he said they have no way of tracking the results of the ad. They just want to let people know where and what Bullhead City is. They had over 400 responses to the ad in the magazine. The key thing is “affordability”. Vice President Adams said we need to get the brochures in every hotel room in Laughlin. They need to find a contact person at the hotels to be able to accomplish this. He also said that the brochures should be inside every charter flight coming and going out of Bullhead City. Director Lopez-Rajaniemi later found out that the brochures are only in the terminal, not on the airplanes.
President Bastyr asked how the planning is going regarding the Christmas Party. Director Lopez-Rajaniemi said she will have the tickets for the Christmas Party available at the dinner tomorrow night. They also went over the Donation List and who was going to call off the list for donation of prizes. President Bastyr said that Wendy Bastyr will be doing the center pieces for the tables. Director Lopez-Rajaniemi said that Silly Cactus donated the tickets for the Christmas Party.
Academy of Building Industries
Treasurer Bouman reported that the Academy of Building Industries held their Open House last week and it was well attended by a great crowd. He also said that they have an all girl drag racing team.
President Bastyr reported that he will be receiving paperwork to rent the same location as last year and it will cost $500.00. The Home Show will once again be held in March. We will be looking for another food vendor. Vice President Adams said he would help with the event. The rest of the committee will consist of Lowes, Michael Paul, Director Lopez-Rajaniemi, Treasurer Bouman, and Secretary Caponetto. They decided to have their first committee meeting December 3rd, at 11:30 a.m., at Scooters.
Safety Committee Meeting
Director Merrill said the 2014 Safety Plan has been sent to SCF. We need the signed copy back from them. The Safety Committee consists of Directors Ramsey, Camacho and Merrill. John Masterson of Golden Vertez had offered to have his Safety Officer come and talk for free to the members at a future dinner meeting.
Vice President Adams said that Don Grasse is not doing well. The last session he had did not work. It does not look good.
Treasurer Bouman asked the Board how they like the Newsletter. The general consensus was they like the Newsletter as is. Treasurer Bouman said they were saving $400 a year with the Newsletter. So, they will try it for another year.
Director Lopez-Rajaniemi said that they need to brainstorm on how to make more money to put in the fund. Besides getting new members, they need to find another way to make money.
Mohave Electric Cooperative (MEC)
Treasurer Bouman reported that MEC will be holding a Town Hall meeting next Monday at 5:30 p.m., at the Chamber of Commerce to discuss temporary reductions in prices and other legal issues.
Secretary Caponetto made a motion to enter Executive Session at 1:01 p.m. Treasurer Bouman seconded the motion. A vote was taken on the motion with all in favor. Motion carried.
Executive Session held.
Vice President Adams made a motion to adjourn the Executive Session and re-convene the regular Board meeting at 1:13 p.m. Director Connella seconded the motion. A vote was taken on the motion with all in favor. Motion carried.
President Bastyr asked for a motion to adjourn. Director Connella made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Secretary Caponetto. All were in favor. Motion approved. Meeting adjourned at 1:14 p.m.
