PRESIDENT’S CORNER

If you are paying attention you are aware that taxes particularly property taxes are on
the increase. There are a number of tax increase proposals under consideration by the
county which include substantial increases in property tax, possibly a sales tax increase
and maybe both. The Bullhead Fire District is asking for voter approval to sale 16.5
million in bonds which will be paid back with an increase in your property taxes should it
pass. All of these proposed increases will be on top of the already approved property
tax increase to repay the 35 million bonds sold by the High School District and those of
you who live in Mohave Valley Elementary School District are already committed to
repaying their bonding amount. These combined increases are significant to the point
of being crippling particularly to commercial property.
Our guest speaker at our July 12th dinner meeting will be Supervisor, Hildy Angius to talk
about the counties possible increases. This is something you need to be informed on
before it is too late to do anything about it. Make your dinner reservations now and let
your feelings known to Supervisor Angius.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER

We have tried for a number of years to keep our members informed and reminded of our monthly meetings strictly with e-mail. It’s evident that hasn’t worked out well as folks don’t open the e-mail or for whatever the reason the e-mail doesn’t go through. So, we are going to try mailing the newsletter again to see if we can get better attendance at the regular monthly meeting. We invite informative guest speakers to every meeting. Many of these guests travel from out of town and go to a lot of trouble to speak at our meetings. We sure need enough participation to make it worth their while to bring their expertise to our meetings.

This June meeting is the month for election of officers and board of directors for the association. I use the word “election” loosely as we have not been very successful in drafting officers or director let alone elect them. We sure encourage, if not beg for some of you to get involved and help with the very important business of our association.

Our guest speaker for this month will be Mr. Joe Bardswich, General Manager for Golden Vortex and the Moss Mine Operation. Joe will update us on the mine’s progress. It’s my understanding that all required permits have been issued, capital obtained and Golden Vortex is on the verge of becoming 100% operational in the next few months. The mine will have need to hire contractors to support its operation.

Plan to attend and find out firsthand what is going on and maybe identify a job opportunity for your company.
